Swag Lamps

In today’s fast-paced society where everybody is busy with their schedules at work and at home, there’s nothing better to do than to reward yourself with something great on your free time. A lot of options are out there for you to choose. You can spend some time chatting with your friends, go on a vacation or leave, or shop and invest for something rewarding. All of these are perfect for both teens and adults, but for those who are a bit homebody, investing on a perfect home décor can be one of the best things to do in life. The good news is that, home decors are now available in different forms. One of the most preferred though is the swag lamps.

The swag lamps have been around for decades now. It was first introduced on the market in the 1950s as a kind of novelty lighting fixture capable of lighting your home with that bright and decorative light available. It was not known so much on the market until the 1970s when swag lamps are designed and produced by hundreds of lighting manufacturers and designers in great numbers. This massive production continues today with more and more homeowners recognizing everything that a swag lamp has to offer.

A swag lamp is so named because it features a cord or chain that is swagged or draped between two or more points. It has a drooping curve and hangs heavily or loosely in one or more points on a wall or ceiling.

Speaking of “hang”, the swag lamps are often identified as a type of hanging fixture, hence it is addressed by many consumers by the name “hanging swag lamps”. You can hung them from your ceiling and see them appearing like the chandeliers. However, to install this fixture properly and perfectly, you need to get at least two hooks, one of which must be used for holding the lamp. Once installed on the right hooks, the lamp will start to droop between those hooks.

The draping and swaggy lamps can also be installed on walls, still with the use of hooks. However, this kind of installation is only applicable to those lamps that are designed for this purpose. You may find these lamps highlighting only a single or a couple of bulbs, and they are hanging over a table or in one corner. They have chains with a cord intertwining through it, and they are made from Lucite or plastic, not from glass.

Although Lucite and plastic are the main materials used for swag lamps, there are still manufacturers who design and craft their products from other materials. The use of stained glass, crystal, and wicker are so common on the market today. You can even find them at the local lighting stores and outlets near you. Nevertheless, such materials are no popular than one of the latest innovations in the market today – the rattan swag lamp.

As the name implies, the rattan swag lamp is made of rattan. The use of this material is rapidly becoming popular these days with more and more people recognizing the benefits that it can offer. In the first place, swag lamps that are made from rattan are so durable and long lasting. They can be painted or be treated with almost all forms of finishes, and much to your surprise, the rattan swag lamps boast an effect that is traditional and vintage. It is for this effect basically that manufacturers often label these products as the vintage swag lamps.

Today, several other styles and designs of portable swag lamps are being produced on the market. Most of these highlight novelty designs, but there are also many that are crafted with company logos in all lamp sides. They also vary in sizes, colors and shapes, but perhaps what’s interesting to know about these items is that they are now offered at a range of about $100 or more.
